Hadith

HADITH
Hadith literally comes from the Arabic word “Hadatha” which means to give a story, narration of information of an account by a person. Technically Hadith is prophetic sayings, reports, statements with came forth from the prophet’s gems or mouth and also includes his actions and deeds.

The term hadith is sometimes used to refer to sunnah although there is a difference between the two. Hadith is what the prophet (SAW) said or what he taught while sunnah its refers to what he did or his actions.

Hadith evolved in four ways :through prophet’s own initiative, he was sent down as a guardian and teacher to humankind. Whenever he felt like teaching Muslims about something he would go ahead and do so (out of his own will).

As a response to questions, the Prophet was a leader and founder of religion so all the matters concerning the religion was his responsibility, therefore people would approach him with questions of religion and other matters. The prophet used to answer those questions and the answers he gave became the hadiths.

Also as a demand of circumstances ,whenever Muslims were faced with circumstances, difficulties or problems they would consult the prophet for suggestions, solutions and remedies. As an interpretation of the Quran, some of the hadith interpreted the Quran. The prophet(SAW) was appointed a messenger and Allah asked him to explain to the Muslims, the message and facts as stated in the Quran.

Hadith has contribute alot to Islamic thought and culture: content of hadith provides an explanation of the verse of the Quran thus enhancing its understanding and application of its teachings.
The study of hadith has made tremendous contributions to the growth and development of Islamic sharia.
Hadith have provided a clear guidance on the code of conduct expected from the Muslims. Muslims should adhere to specific mannerisms of walking, sleeping and eating among others as taught by our Prophet (SAW) .
